(RepublicanPress.org) – Former Vice President Mike Pence warned of the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) hostile intentions towards the United States during a recent Heritage Foundation speech. As he explained, China’s communist regime is laboring to become an “evil empire” that can’t be trusted. Less than two weeks later, federal prosecutors appeared to back up Pence’s concerns.
On July 22, the Department of Justice Office of Public Affairs issued a press release detailing the issuance of indictments against nine individuals for conspiring to act within US borders as “illegal agents” for the PRC. The indictment supersedes a related criminal complaint from October 2020 and an indictment from May 2021.

Court documents allege the defendants attempted to “harass” US residents to return to China. The goal was to hunt down and repatriate accused Chinese “fugitives” for prosecution.
One of the defendants, Tu Lan, worked as a prosecutor in China. He traveled to the US to direct a “harassment campaign” that included ordering one of his co-defendants to destroy evidence as part of an effort to obstruct US officials’ criminal investigation.
The defendants face multi charges carrying maximum penalties ranging from 5 to 20 years. Department of Homeland Security Special Agent in Charge Peter C. Fitzhugh told reporters, “the defendants will now face the true justice” they attempted to deny “their victims.”
