2 Kids Escape After Crazy Car Theft

(RepublicanPress.org) – Consumer Affairs reported that over a million cars were stolen in the United States in 2022, a nearly 7% increase from the prior year. The number dipped below one million in 2008, staying below the million mark until just a couple of years ago. According to the data, California held the top spot for vehicle thefts, followed by Texas, Washington, and Florida. Oregon didn’t even make the top 10, but a recent instance in the state took two kids for a terrifying ride.

On January 24, Fox News reported that an 11-year-old and a 9-year-old recently escaped from a stolen car and were rescued thanks to their bravery and quick thinking. The kids’ dad reportedly left the pair in his idling car while running in for a quick stop at a local business in Portland. Moments later, police suspect that 33-year-old Iosha Dashae Millage took the opportunity to jump into the driver’s seat and steal the vehicle with the children inside. Although the father tried to stop the woman from getting away, he was unsuccessful.

While at a stop light about 10 minutes into the drive, the kids hopped out of the back seat and ran, waving down a passerby for help. That person called the police and stayed with the youngsters until first responders arrived at the scene. The suspect took off after the kids escaped, but she didn’t get far. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office had an eye out for the vehicle and spotted it a short time later in North Portland. Millage reportedly gave chase, but law enforcement was able to box her in after she crossed into Washington state.

The suspect was swiftly arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving with a suspended or revoked license. She was also hit with fugitive from justice charges for kidnapping, robbery, and attempt to elude.

Reporting about the incident didn’t indicate the children were physically harmed.
